Some 60 years ago, our beloved country Ghana attained her independence from colonial rule. It was a fateful Wednesday evening, on 06 March 1957, when the Ɔsagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah gave a speech announcing: "Ghana, [our] beloved country, is free for ever." This was followed by cheers from a crowd of people that had gathered to hear Dr. Nkrumah speak. He would later become the first president of the Republic of Ghana by a general plebiscite. Later the same year, in the month that Ghana became a republic, a miracle happened.

It's sixty years now, and it was really deserving to celebrate this miracle who in his own way has contributed so much to church music in Ghana. His birth in 1957 was a miracle. For Ghanaians who grew up here, we are very familiar with this song:
Awurade, W'ahennie yi so / Awurade, Wo tumi yi so / Yesu ei! Hwan na ɔne Wo sɛ / Obiara nni hɔ bio, wiase nyinaa yɛ wo dea
Yesu ei! Yɛma Wo so o / Ɔhene Yesu ei! Yehyira Wo o / Yɛn wura Yesu ei! Yɛkoto Wo /
Yesu ei! Hwan na ɔne Wo sɛ / Obiara nni hɔ bio, wiase nyinaa yɛ wo dea

Album consisting of signature highlife songs by Kras Kofi Arthur on the occasion of his 60th Anniversary

...but never knew where the song originated from. It was composed by Mr Kras Kofi Arthur, better and simply known as Kras Arthur (Sr). The song has been used in our churches for praise and worship sessions just as 'Nyame Yɛ Ɔsahen,' another of his numerous compositions. His songs have inspired testimonies of people who drew closer to God, even when he "had not been born again by then."

The Choral Evangelist GH has the interest of throwing more light on Kras Arthur as an add-up to the efforts of VocalEssence Chorale who held a concert to commemorate his diamond jubilee and honour him earlier in July this year. Below is an account written by himself as his 60th anniversary was marked:
